What is handpoke?

  • Handpoke is done dot by dot, pricking the skin with a thin, small needle. The needle is dipped in ink.
  • Handpoke is the beginning of tattooing and in history they used bones or wood shaped into needles to make tattoos
  • Handpoke is dot work and the tattoos are created with a serie of dots creating lines or shapes
  • Handpoke has been used in history in different cultures and with different techniques you can read more about it from this article: (TDP, 2020, Hand Poke tattoo origin and history)
  • Handpoke tattoos are said to hurt less than machine tattoos. But everyone is different and skins vary
  • Handpoke tattoos take a bit more time due to the fact they are done dot by dot
  • Handpoke tattoos heal faster, due to less skin trauma caused by a single needle
  • Handpoke tattoos darken while healing, due to the fact that the ink does not push itself as much out and the healing is faster due to the less skin trauma
  • Handpoke tattoos are more intimate and the process is generally quite calm and some people say even relaxing
  • With me I can make bigger projet with handpoke also, because I am quite fast, so don’t be scared of that! As long as the style fits we can make it happen
